A CMS report of the investigation’s findings stated, “The hospital failed to effectively govern the activities and conduct of the hospital staff to provide safe and quality care to all patients,” according to the Sacramento Bee.
A lack of outcry from hospital staff against the experimental procedures involving live bacteria led CMS to report that all the hospital’s patients were at increased risk of infection and death, according to the report.
The Bee reports two of the deceased patients’ families are pursuing legal action against the hospital and that hospital officials have submitted a corrective action plan to regulators.
