The NHAMCS has been in place since 1992 to provide statistics on ambulatory care provided by hospitals. The NHCS is a new survey, intended to integrate data collected from the National Hospital Discharge Survey and the NHAMCS.
The CDC’s one-year clearance request seeks to pre-test data collection from hospital ambulatory and emergency departments through the NHCS. The pre-test, which will involve 30 hospitals, will also include new questions on drug-related ER visits and colorectal cancer screenings.
