The sealed lawsuit was brought under the False Claims Act. While the agreement’s details are unavailable, the allegations concerned Medicare and Medicaid payments.
In addition to the settlement, Catholic Health entered into a corporate integrity agreement with HHS’ Office of Inspector General to assure compliance.
Catholic Health declined The Buffalo News‘ request for comment, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo also declined comment, as the settlement is sealed.
