Cancer patients sue New York insurer for ending contract with physicians' group

Patients at New York Oncology Hematology, a cancer care services provider based in Albany, have filed a class-action lawsuit against Capital District Physicians' Health Plan alleging the health insurer's action of reducing reimbursement rates led to the termination of its contract with NYOH, according to a timesunion.com report.

The lawsuit was filed after NYOH informed its patients that the contract between NYOH and CDPHP would end Feb. 2, 2015.

The lawsuit alleges CDPHP breached its contract with its members when it unilaterally reduced reimbursement rates. The lawsuit further alleges the health insurer is engaging in deceptive business practices, according to the report.

The lawsuit seeks a court order commanding CDPHP to provide in-network rates for its members to receive care from NYOH physicians for the remainder of each member's current health insurance contract, according to the report.
