California Medical Association Petitions Supreme Court Over Medicaid Cuts

The California Medical Association and other advocacy groups have sent a petition to the Supreme Court asking for a review of a lower court's decision to allow the state to make cuts to Medicaid reimbursements.

According to the petition, California's Department of Health Care Services reformulated Medicare reimbursement rates without considering providers' service costs, an action supported by a Ninth Circuit court ruling. The petition states a precedent for the consideration of providers' costs had been set by rulings by other district courts, and is asking for the Supreme Court to review the Ninth Circuit's decision.

Petitioners include the California Medical Association, California Hospital Association, California Pharmacists Association, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, California Association of Medical Product Suppliers, California Dental Association and American Medical Response West.
