AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock wrote that hospitals are a “central component of the federal-state partnership that serves as the basis for the Medicaid program,” and the trade association wants to make sure the new expansion rules are clear for hospitals and patients.
The letter listed 12 specific questions on the topic, including:
• Are individuals with incomes between 100 percent and 138 percent of the federal poverty level eligible for subsidies through health insurance exchanges?
• Can states expand Medicaid coverage to certain populations?
• How will the Medicaid expansion option affect the Medicare disproportionate share hospital payment reductions as well as the Medicaid DSH payment reductions?
