While the American Hospital Association supports passage of the Senate health reform bill that is now being voted on, the AHA has some reservations too, according to a report by AHA News Now.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), the AHA lauded the bill’s goal of universal coverage but had a few bones to pick about provisions that would be taken up by a joint House-Senate conference committee if the Senate bill passes, as expected.

The letter listed concerns in the following areas:

* Medicare and Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) programs;
* the Medicare hospital update; and
* New reimbursement policies that would penalize hospitals for unavoidable readmissions.
