AHA Commends CMS’s Proposed Medicare Advantage Rule Change

The American Hospital Association applauded the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ decision to exempt hospitals and other healthcare organizations that participate in Medicare from separate compliance training requirements under Medicare Advantage program in a letter addressed to Acting CMS Administrator Charlene Frizzera.

The AHA argued that the CMS’s policy for compliance training under Medicare Advantage for hospitals was redundant, as hospitals are already required to train staff members on detecting fraud, waste and abuse under traditional Medicare. In the letter, the association also noted that most state Medicare Advantage plans may only contract with hospitals that have traditional Medicare agreements with CMS.

The letter concluded by reaffirming the AHA’s support of the proposed rule change, which would reduce unnecessary burden and expense to hospitals.
