8 Colo. anesthesia providers overcharge Medicaid patients $3M, AG finds

Following an 18-month investigation, the Colorado Attorney General found eight Colorado anesthesia providers guilty of fraudulently billing patients for more than $3 million, according to The Denver Post.

The providers overbilled patients by charging twice for the same service or charging for undocumented services.

“Returning millions of dollars to Colorado taxpayers is vital to ensure that our Medicaid system works properly and effectively,” said Attorney General Cynthia Coffman in a statement, according to the report. “I appreciate the diligent work of our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to achieve this positive outcome.”

The following providers were involved, and had to pay back the total sum of $3.02 million:

  • Alta Anesthesia PC (Cortez, Colo.)
  • Banner Greeley (Colo.) Anesthesia
  • Catholic Health Initiatives (Englewood, Colo.)
  • Colorado Anesthesia Group (Vail, Colo.)
  • Eastern Plains Anesthesia (Fort Morgan, Colo.)
  • Glenwood Springs (Colo.) Anesthesiology
  • Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado (Denver)
  • Longmont (Colo.) Anesthesia
