Beginning June 2, the Joint Commission will start giving laboratories advance notice of scheduled survey activity.
Advance notification will be provided up to 14 days ahead of scheduled survey activity. The change is based on feedback from accredited organizations and aligns with CMS guidance for lab participation in the Medicare program, the accrediting body said in a May 21 update.
The Joint Commission will not provide advance notice for compliant surveys, follow-up surveys on previously identified noncompliance, or lab surveys that coincide with unannounced survey activity from another accreditation program.
The change is intended to reduce administrative burden and improve the survey experience for laboratories.
