Inspira Medical Center of Mullica Hill (N.J.) uses a RoomLink system, which comprises all the patient information recorded in the EHR to display on a screen outside respective patients’ rooms. The screen displays symbols that denote what information staff needs to know about the patient before entering their room, and conversely shows the staff members’ badge and information on the television screen inside the patient’s room.

The system also uses the television screens to display educational information for patients. Physicians and nurses can assign modules through the EHR for patients to view, displaying information such as what to expect before, during and after a procedure as well as details on medications.

The hospital will also implement virtual and augmented reality technology for patients undergoing pain management procedures such as chemotherapy and dialysis.

“You have technology in this building that you are not going to see anywhere else,” said John DiAngelo, president and CEO of Inspira, according to the report. “That technology is the tool that helps us generate the best possible care we can in the most efficient way.”

Patients with chronic illness can also receive a 24/7 monitoring system post discharge so Inspira clinicians can continue to monitor their care. The system kits include scales, blood pressure cuffs and a pulse oximeter.
