In the past, the hospitals that most commonly sought partnerships with remote pharmacy service providers were those that needed to backfill the pharmacy during night shifts, or hospitals that did not have enough staff on hand. However, now that pharmacists are playing an increasingly larger role in systemwide initiatives — such as medical reconciliation, implementing EHRs and helping patients understand their medication regimens as they prepare for discharge — many more hospitals are seeing the need to supplement their pharmacy with additional staff.
