IU Health investigates racially charged tweet allegedly sent by employed nurse

Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health said a recently hired nurse who allegedly sent a racially charged tweet no longer works for the system.

The news, confirmed via an IU statement to Becker’s, stems from a tweet tied to a IU Health nurse. The Indianapolis Star reports that the nurse in question is Taiyesha Baker.

IU Health confirmed to the publication that Ms. Baker was a system employee at the time of the social media post. The system has not named Ms. Baker but did say the employee did not work at Riley Hospital for Children.

The tweet, posted last week, came from a Night Nurse account, according to The Indianapolis Star. The tweet said: "Every white woman raises a detriment to society when they raise a son. Someone with the HIGHEST propensity to be a terrorist, rapist, racist, killer, and domestic violence all star. Historically every son you had should be sacrificed to the wolves Bitch"

After the tweet was posted, IU Health sent a statement Friday night saying it was investigating the issue. The next day, IU Health released another statement saying, "IU Health is aware of several troubling posts on social media which appear to be from a recently hired IU Health employee. Our HR department continues to investigate the situation and the authenticity of the posts. During the investigation, that employee will have no access to patient care." The system confirmed the newly hired employee no longer worked for IU Health Sunday.

The report notes it is unclear whether the nurse was fired, resigned or left IU Health before the investigation commenced.
