Members of SEIU 121RN have ratified their first labor contract with Anaheim (Calif.) Regional Medical Center, according to a union news release shared with Becker’s.
The agreement, ratified June 4, covers more than 300 registered nurses.
According to SEIU 121RN, the deal includes a commitment to address nurses’ concerns over staffing through a new committee that includes bedside nurses among its members and will explore ways to improve care quality.
Other provisions highlighted by the union:
- Wage increases of at least 19.2%.
- A new wage scale that “will ensure that both current staff and new hires are fairly compensated.”
- Provisions that reflect those in a new law that will require that hospitals implement metal detectors and trained security personnel at main entrances.
“This contract will go a long way to improve staffing and reduce staff burnout,” Liza Lorenzo, RN, said in the release. “We feel like we achieved a lot, our patients and community will benefit from this, and we look forward to even more improvements in our future contracts. Now we stand behind our licensed professional co-workers as they continue negotiating their first union contract.”
Becker’s has reached out to ARMC and will update this story if a comment is received.
ARMC nurses voted in favor of SEIU 121RN representation in August and began negotiations with the hospital in November.
