Hospitalist compensation rose at CAGR of 5% since 2013: 5 things to know

Pershing Yoakley & Associates, a national healthcare consulting and accounting firm, has released a Fair Market Value Compensation Study highlighting hospitalist demand and supply as well as hospitalist compensation.

The study is accompanied by an infographic called “Fair Market Value Compensation: Spotlight on Hospitalists.”

Here are five findings from the study.

1. Most U.S. hospitals (75 percent) are currently using hospitalists.

2. The national demand for hospitalists is projected to increase by about 20 percent between 2014 and 2025, according to the study.

3. Most physicians practicing as hospitalists (86 percent) were trained in internal medicine or family medicine.

4. Between 2003 and 2016, the estimated number of U.S. hospitalists rose five fold, from approximately 10,000 to more than 50,000, the study found.

5. The study also found hospitalist clinical compensation grew at a compound annual growth rate of 5 percent between 2013 ($235,419) and 2017 ($282,775).
