Registered nurses at CommonSpirit Longmont (Colo.) United Hospital have approved a new three-year labor contract.

The contract covers more than 250 direct-care nurses at LUH, according to an April 9 news release from National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United.

This is the first union contract for the nurses at the hospital and the first acute care, private-sector contract for RNs in Colorado, union representatives said.

Highlights of the contract, as cited by NNOC/NNU, include:

  • RN floating and cancellation protections.
  • Scheduled monthly meetings between union members and management to address patient care concerns.
  • Meal- and rest-break language.
  • Health and safety provisions.
  • Competitive wages within the Denver metropolitan area.
  • Protections for benefits.

“We started organizing because our community deserves the best care when they come to our hospital, and our nurses deserve support to be the best nurses they can be,” Kris Kloster, RN, said in the union release. “I am so proud of the work we have accomplished at the table, and we couldn’t have done it without the solidarity of nurses in our facility.”

LUH shared the following statement with Becker’s:

“Longmont United Hospital is pleased to have reached a collective bargaining agreement with National Nurses United. We believe the agreement reflects the values we all share: respect, fairness and the highest standards for patient care.”

LUH is part of Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health. Nurses at the facility reached the deal after bargaining since February 2024.
