Most of the 22 eliminated positions were in administrative and support areas, but some clinical positions are also being cut, according to the report. The layoffs were announced and effective Wednesday.
The cuts were attributed to changing patient utilization patterns and decreased reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid, according to the report.
A hospital official estimated the workforce changes affect less than 2 percent of Good Samaritan’s labor force, according to the report. Factoring in the layoffs, the system remains the largest non-governmental employer in Lebanon County with more than 1,400 employees.
