While the dental school operates other clinics in the area, Monocacy Health Partners is the first clinic affiliated with an area hospital.
University of Maryland officials said they hope the collaboration creates a sustainable financial model that can be replicated in Maryland and across the country.
While Monocacy Health Partners does not currently provide preventative care, officials said those services will be added over time.
Patients who need help finding primary-care physicians or who need other medical services will be referred back to the hospital, which will share patient records with the clinic.
Students from the dental school will be required to volunteer at the clinic, according to the article.
