Troubled Tennessee hospital seeks to sell another asset

Nine months ago, Maryville, Tenn.-based Blount Memorial Hospital tried and failed to sell a wellness facility in nearby Alcoa.

That move spurred a now ongoing dispute as to whether the hospital or local government had the right to sell such assets. Now, the hospital is seeking to sell a senior community and care facility in Maryville for a similar amount of money, according to a July 25 report from The Daily Times.

The MorningView center could sell for up to $26.5 million, according to the report. Blount Memorial is now working with one of the four proposed buyers, the Cleveland, Tenn.-based Ocoee Foundation, to seek a sale by Dec. 1.

Blount Memorial sought to sell its Springbrook Alcoa facility for approximately $22.2 million late last year but the deal has failed so far to go through.
