Officials said Southampton Hospital will become one of Stony Brook Hospital’s campuses and operate under Stony Brook’s operating license, but will retain its current management structure and facilities. Officials are also considering constructing a new Southampton Hospital on Stony Brook’s Southampton campus.

Robert Chaloner, president and CEO of Southampton Hospital, said in a previous interview with 27east.com he believes delays in state approval occurred because Stony Brook is a state organization and officials sought to thoroughly review the institutions’ application, according to the report.

Stony Brook and Southampton Hospital signed a letter of intent in 2012 to affiliate after years of negotiation. A State University of New York trustees committee approved the merger in January 2015.
