Peter Karl, CEO of Eastern Connecticut Health Network, which owns both hospitals, did not name the chains. However, he did tell the Hartford Courant that the chains are in the Northeast and are not among the country’s four largest hospital companies.
In addition to the for-profit chains, in-state nonprofit health systems have also shown interest in a potential merger or partnership with the hospitals.
ECHN has been actively looking for a merger or partnership since Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare in February backed out of the deal to acquire the system and three other Connecticut hospitals in Waterbury and Bristol.
ECHN hopes to make a merger decision by early June, according to the report.
