Affiliation talks between the two healthcare organizations began last April, as South Shore leadership concluded they would be better positioned for health reform by partnering with a larger system, according to the report.
Union representatives questioned whether merger-related costs would hurt workers’ wages and benefits, and the local councilor wanted assurance regarding possible layoffs before he backed the partnership.
