Fitch Ratings reports more nontraditional buyers, particularly foreign capital and private equity firms, are looking to acquire healthcare real estate as real estate investment trusts' increasingly look to pare down their portfolios.

After embarking on a successful partnership with Providence Tarzana (Calif.) Medical Center in 2015, Children's Hospital Los Angeles is expanding its partnership with Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services, according to Kaiser Health News.

Columbus, Ohio, resident John Johnson, MD, is in the process of buying the former Massillon, Ohio-based Doctors Hospital for $465,000. Dr. Johnson plans to reopen the facility in late 2017 as an outpatient and drug treatment clinic, according to IndeOnline.

Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health are discussing a possible merger. This is the fourth time the institutions have attempted to combine operations in the past five years, according to The Boston Globe.
