UHS rejected the city’s bid of $9.7 million for the property, according to the report. The hospital has been closed since Hurricane Katrina, and if the city is able to purchase the property, it plans to restore hospital service to the facility.
Although one appraisal of the hospital did come in at $9.7 million, it was the lowest of all estimates. USH President Marc Miller said in the report that the offer was rejected because it was below fair market value and that one appraisal of the facility came in at $30 million.
