New details show state deal with LSU hospital operator won’t improve relations

While the state of Louisiana and the Shreveport, La.-based Biomedical Research Foundation, which operates Louisiana State University affiliated hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe, reached an agreement last week, new details about the deal show that tensions still exist between the two organizations, according to NewsOK.

New details regarding the agreement show the organization will use independent arbiters when LSU and the foundation known as BRF can’t reach agreement on basic issues like bill payments. This provision suggests the organizations anticipate possible confrontation in the future.

The agreement also states that BRF will: provide $37 million in additional payments to LSU’s Shreveport medical school, pay the $6.9 million LSU claims the hospital operator owes to the university, as well as $5.3 million in disputed billings LSU also claims it should receive.

While both LSU and its northern hospitals remain “optimistic” about the collaboration, the BRF’s statement in response to the agreement simply acknowledged how the transaction meets the “medical center’s immediate needs,” according to the article.
