Two of the three hospitals — MedWest-Harris in Sylva, N.C., and MedWest-Swain in Bryson City, N.C., which together form WestCare — expressed interest in terminating their 2010 alliance with MedWest-Haywood in Clyde, citing loss of patients, revenue and status to Haywood.
Harris and Swain would need three-fourths of the shared board members, half of whom represent Haywood, to agree to dissolve the partnership, which seems to have benefited Haywood’s financial performance, according to the report. If the two hospitals did have their way, however, they’d likely lose their management affiliation with Carolinas, so they’ve been gauging interest from other potential partners, according to the report.
