Judge Delays Decision on LifePoint’s Acquisition of Sumner Regional

The same bankruptcy judge who last week approved the sale of Gallatin, Tenn.-based Sumner Regional Health Systems has delayed a final ruling on the transaction, according to a report by the Nashville Business Journal.

In 2004, Sumner County sold the hospital to private owners for $10 million. The county objected to the LifePoint sale, arguing it still has assets in the hospital. On Friday, the judge ruled the sale could go through, and the hospital could attempt to collect its assets after the sale.

After the judge’s opinion was released, the health system filed a sale order, but the county again objected, arguing the sale order contained findings not made by the court, according to the report.

Both groups have until end of day today to file briefs, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for tomorrow, according to the report.
