Serving as Hallmark’s interim CEO since February, Mr. Macdonald sees a bright future for the system if Partners is in the picture. “We can maintain our position as a community hospital,” he said, according to the report. “The question is whether or not we can be as strong as we could be with Partners.”
In January, a Suffolk Superior Court Judge rejected a settlement deal that would have allowed Partners to acquire Hallmark and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass. In February, Partners backed out of the deal to acquire South Shore, and put the deal with Hallmark on hold.
Along with attempting to sort out the deal with Partners, Mr. Macdonald faces many other challenges in his new role, such as addressing increasing operating losses at the system’s facilities.
