Employees at New York’s Community General Hospital Argue Against SUNY Merger

Employees at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., argued against a merger with SUNY Upstate University Hospital, also in Syracuse, at a meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees, according to a TWEAN News report.

Dozens of workers showed up at the meeting voicing their preference to remain an independent hospital, according to the report.

Upstate University Hospital applied for a certificate of need to acquire Community General in March.

Upstate University Hospital hopes to minimize layoffs, but employees at Community General would have to reapply for their positions and could lose seniority, according to the report.
