Caritas Christi Parent Asks State for Approval to Acquire Two Hospitals for $21M

Steward Health Care System, the for-profit parent company of Boston-based Caritas Christi Health Care, filed an application with the Massachusetts Department of Health to acquire two community hospitals for $21 million, according to a Boston Globe report.

Steward also pledged $19 million in capital improvements at the two hospitals.

The hospital operator announced last week it planned to acquire Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass from Nashville, Tenn.-based Essent Healthcare. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed at that time.
