Bert Fish CEO Speaks on Merger Controversy

Bert Fish Medical Center’s CEO Bob Williams said the controversy surrounding the New Smyrna Beach, Fla., hospital’s merger wouldn’t have been an issue if the hospital board had better understood Florida’s Sunshine Law, according to a News-Journal report.

The Bert Fish Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the Bert Fish merger with Orlando-based Florida Hospital asking the court to declare the lease and sale of the Bert Fish facility null and void due to closed meetings that violate Florida’s Sunshine Law.

A Sept. 27 meeting has been scheduled to attempt to clear the air between the Bert Fish Foundation and the Southeast Volusia Hospital District Board that held the private meetings, according to the report.
