Beacon Health wraps up acquisition of 4 Ascension Michigan hospitals

South Bend, Ind.-based Beacon Health System has completed its acquisition of Ascension Southwest Michigan, according to a July 1 news release shared with Becker’s

The locally owned, nonprofit health system signed a definitive agreement to acquire ASM’s four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and ASC in early April. Ascension Southwest Michigan is a regional subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ascension.

The hospitals have been renamed as follows, according to the release: Beacon Kalamazoo, a 422-bed acute care hospital, formerly Ascension Borgess Hospital; Beacon Allegan, formerly Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital; Beacon Dowagiac, formerly Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital; and Beacon Plainwell, formerly Ascension Borgess-Pipp Hospital in Plainwell. 

The acquisition brings more than 2,700 employees, along with 259 providers, under Beacon. 

“Today marks an important new chapter as we come together, and we couldn’t be more excited  about what we’ll accomplish as one unified team dedicated to serving our communities,” Kreg Gruber, Beacon CEO, said in the release. “This acquisition represents our continued  commitment to strengthening health care in our region. Our patients will benefit from access to  an expanded network of services and providers.”
