Earlier debate over the deal centered on the city’s desire for Health Management to continue the hospital’s Level 2 trauma center and commitment to charity care. The only council member to vote against the sale did so citing concern that no minimum amount of charity care was included in the lease agreement.
State officials will vote on final approval for the sale in April.
Bayfront’s sale price is $202 million, of which Health Management would purchase an 80 percent interest and obtain the rest through a non-profit research foundation named Bayfront Health Education & Research Organization. The hospital chain also committed to make $100 million in capital improvements.
