University of Illinois medical school appoints 2 physicians to executive team

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign appointed Blair Rowitz, MD, and Jarrod Almaroad, MD, to the Urbana-based Carle Illinois College of Medicine leadership team.

Here are eight things to know about the appointments.

1. Dr. Rowitz will serve as the school’s associate dean for clinical affairs.

2. He previously served as the college’s interim associate dean for clinical affairs since November 2016. Dr. Rowitz will be responsible for integrating the school’s innovation, research and scholarship activities into its clinical partners’ care missions.

3. In addition to his position within the Carle Illinois medical school, Dr. Rowitz will retain his position in the university’s department of nutritional science at the Urbana-Champaign campus, as well as his numerous roles and clinical affiliations at the Urbana-based Carle Foundation Hospital.

4. Dr. Rowitz received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his medical degree from Chicago-based Rush University.

5. Dr. Almaroad will serve as the institution’s first director of clinical science.

6. In his role, Dr. Almaroad will act as the principal administrative officer for clinical science and will manage the clinical component of the college’s medical degree curriculum.

7. Dr. Almaroad previously served as an anesthesiologist at Carle Foundation Hospital since 2008. He also maintains a clinical affiliation with the hospital as associate medical director of perioperative services.

8. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.
