New UCHealth, Colorado State partnership to bolster healthcare for CSU, Fort Collins

Two top universities in Colorado are strengthening their partnership around academics and healthcare.

Aurora-based University of Colorado Health and Fort Collins-based Colorado State University announced plans Monday to collaborate on building and staffing the new CSU Health and Medical Center, hosting health and wellness events for the Fort Collins community and extending UCHealth's relationship with CSU Athletics to all student athletes.

"There's no question that CSU and CU compete with one another for a few hours each year on the field and court," CSU President Tony Frank said in a statement. "But we also work extraordinarily well together when it comes to what really matters: Service to our state, our communities and the advancement of knowledge. Our partnership with UCHealth has served CSU so well for many years. This agreement takes these commitments to a whole new level."

Under the partnership UCHealth will continue to be the preferred in-network healthcare provider for CSU employees. The University of Colorado School of Medicine will also consider expanding medical education and research opportunities to CSU. The two schools already have a joint venture for the Colorado School of Public Health and as partners in the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

"By fostering an expanded partnership between the state's leading research universities in key areas of mutual interest, the entire state wins," University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Chancellor Don Elliman, said in a statement.
