MidMichigan Health to close medical office this month

MidMichigan Health, a nonprofit health system based in Midland, has announced it is closing its medical office in Hemlock, Mich., later this month, according to an MLive report.

The last day for patient appoints or laboratory services at MidMichigan Medical Offices-Hemlock will be Sept. 25. The health system is sending letters to affected patients encouraging them to continue their care with providers in Freeland, Mich. — MidMichigan Health-Freeland is 13 miles from the system's office in Hemlock.

"We find that Hemlock residents often prefer to receive their health services in other communities closer to where they work and shop," Ronette Parks, vice president of MidMichigan Physicians Group, a subsidiary of MidMichigan Health, said in a statement. "Since we have plenty of nearby providers with the capacity to take care of these patients, we have decided it makes more sense to serve them in those other locations versus operating a separate office in Hemlock."

The health system also aims to maintain employment for the healthcare providers and staff working at its Hemlock location, according to the report.
