Albert Einstein College of Medicine, CUNY to offer MD-MPH program

New York City-based Albert Einstein College of Medicine is partnering with City University of New York Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy to offer a combined medical and master's of public health degree.

MD-MPH degrees prepare physicians to work for nonprofit organizations, at research institutions and in governmental public health positions.

Einstein's class of 2023 is the first to be offered the degree option, which requires five years to complete. Students will begin MPH coursework online during the summer after their first year of medical school. They will complete fieldwork over the summer and finish the coursework during a gap year after the third year of medical school.

"CUNY [School of Public Health's] MPH will naturally extend the thread of social justice that is woven throughout Einstein's culture and curriculum, which includes a strong emphasis on understanding the social and structural determinants of health and how to help mitigate them for our patients and communities," said Joshua Nosanchuk, MD, senior associate dean for medical education and a professor at Einstein, in a press release.
