The layoffs and salary reductions are expected to cut $1.3 million from Wiregrass’ expenses, according to the report.
Wiregrass is facing reduced reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers. The hospital also treats a large population of uninsured patients, according to the report.
“We did not want to be falling into what has happened at 10 other hospitals across Alabama, which have been forced to close their doors,” CEO Jim Heitzenrater told the Dothan Eagle.
