What are the keys to successful service lines?

In a recent post on Hayes Management’s Healthcare Leaders Blog, David McCready, Senior Vice President of Surgical, Procedural and Imaging Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, tackles the issue of service lines.

According the to post, Brigham and Women’s has been involved with clinical service line development for more than a decade. Mr. Mcready notes 3 things that successful service lines have in common:

– They are multi-disciplinary.

– They are patient-centered.

– They tackle governance, management, resources and funds flow challenges head-on.

With these 3 keys in mind, organizations can begin to form service lines. However, service line development does come with challenges, including non-traditional revenue cycle monitoring and leadership heirarchy.
