University of Georgia student-run philanthropy raises $1.2M for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

UGA Miracle, the largest, student-run philanthropy at Athens-based University of Georgia, gathered Sunday to celebrate raising $1,261,077 for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, according to UGA Today.

The group organized a dance marathon, 5K race and tour of local homes among other events to help raise the money. Every dollar up to $1 million will go towards the hospital's comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation unit. Almost 50 patients from the hospital came to the 24-hour dance marathon that began Saturday to share stories of their experiences at the hospital.

"I have come across some of the most selfless, inspiring people," John Caras, UGA Miracle's internal director, told UGA Today. "Seeing these students fight for those who can't fight for themselves makes me proud to be a part of UGA Miracle and to be a student of the University of Georgia."
