University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina wanted to rebrand the organization with a new name and logo to reflect its growth from a community hospital into a health system. It initially planned a name change to UHS, but those efforts were stymied due to trademark dispute over the initials.
In September, Universal Health Services in King of Prussia, Pa., sent a letter to University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina CEO Dave McRae saying the “UHS” name fell under its trademark privileges.
