The union, which represents roughly 150,000 healthcare workers, has said St. Rose needs to remain a community hospital. The proposed agreement calls for a $2 million infusion from the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. County officials would also be authorized to negotiate an agreement with Washington Hospital in Fremont, Calif., which would keep the hospital open.
The endorsement counters Prime Healthcare’s offer to buy St. Rose, which it made last week. The union expressed concern over Prime’s recent regulatory problems, as it was the subject of a state committee hearing two weeks ago and is reportedly under FBI investigation, according to the release.
St. Rose has been losing roughly $1 million per month, according to the report.
