Worcester-based UMass Memorial Health Care CEO John G. O’Brien said the job cuts are due to declined reimbursements and patient volume.
UMass is pursuing a few different strategies to reduce costs. The system also trimmed another 144 jobs when it sold its home health and hospice division to Worcester-based VNA Care Network & Hospice this summer for an undisclosed price, according to the report. UMass’ hospital labs are also up for sale.
The system employed roughly 12,350 people before this latest round of layoffs.
