According to the report, the nurses are required to find and change into scrubs provided by the hospital before clocking in for their shift. The nurses must also change out of their scrubs before leaving the hospital at the end of their shift.
The nurses alleged they were written up for trying to clock in before changing into scrubs and being late to their respective units due to the time it takes to dress into the uniforms. The nurses estimate the hospital rule adds 15 minutes to their shift. An attorney representing the nurses said the unpaid 15 minutes may seem insignificant until they are added up over time.
The nurses expect other healthcare personnel locally and nationally will join their cause. Meanwhile, HealthOne responded it always has and will “look out for the best interest of our employees and that includes complying with the Fair Labor Standards Act,” according to the report.
