HHS Secretary Alex Azar made the comments July 26 during a speech at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
“We are fully committed to work requirements and community participation requirements in the Medicaid program,” Mr. Azar said. “We will continue to litigate, we will continue to approve plans, we are continuing to work with states, and we’ll drive forward.”
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ruled June 29 that Medicaid work requirements approved by HHS and mandated by Kentucky’s Republican Gov. Matt Bevin did not sufficiently show how beneficiaries’ health would be improved. Instead, Mr. Boasberg called the Trump administration’s approval of the work requirements “arbitrary and capricious.”
