Top 5 Work Environments Preferred by Rehabilitation Therapists

In general, specialized outpatient practice is the work environment most preferred by rehabilitation therapists, according to Trends in Rehabilitation Services 2012, a national report on therapist attitudes and workforce trends by Jackson Healthcare, a healthcare staffing company.

The findings of the report are based on a survey of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists that was conducted online from September to November 2012. The 590 respondents were self-selected.

The work environments most preferred by rehabilitation therapists, according to the survey, are:

•    Specialized outpatient practice — 16 percent
•    Public or private school — 13 percent
•    Hospital setting (non-surgical, non-emergency) — 11 percent
•    Rehabilitation center (inpatient) — 11 percent
•    Office/clinic setting — 10 percent
