The first industry-wide event co-hosted by LeanTaaS was a success to be shared

At a time when the patient population in the US is rapidly growing, and health systems are often unable to expand their care capacity without significant investments, the need to manage that capacity to its fullest is critical.

My team at LeanTaas is dedicated to building predictive analytics tools to transform day-to-day operations across healthcare specialties. Our partnership with healthcare providers is essential to our work and keeps our approach agile.

In summer 2021, a pivotal moment in determining what optimal healthcare will look like in the future, we took a huge step in advancing this partnership. My colleagues and I joined with our healthcare customers and other providers for the Transform Hospital Operations Virtual Summit. Over 3500 participants from across the US, representing close to a thousand hospitals in more than 300 health systems, had registered.

This two-day event, which ran completely online, showcased how hundreds of health systems engage AI and advanced analytics to sustainably transform their processes and improve their outcomes. While most sessions and conversations focused specifically on functions like ORs, infusion centers and inpatient bed management, the learnings could impact operations throughout an entire health system.

Highlights of the event included:

  • Insights from executives. LeanTaaS Founder and CEO Mohan Giridharadas opened with his “Perspectives on Optimizing Asset Utilization in Healthcare” and addressed the principles of successfully balancing supply and demand in ORs, infusion chairs, and inpatient beds. A fireside chat featuring LeanTaas President and COO Sanjeev Agrawal, Mercy Health SVP and CNO Betty Jo Rocchio, and Mount Sinai SVP Christopher T. Spina gave a high level view of why capacity management is so critical to healthcare, and how existing tools like EHRs simply aren’t designed to help support it.
  • Stories from health systems. Leaders from systems like Johns Hopkins Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Rush University Medical Center, UCHealth and Novant Health Medical Park Hospital, shared their experiences optimizing their own capacity management and overall efficiency, thus improving patient access and ROI. While showing their unique challenges and how they equipped themselves to tackle them, they also offered learnings that were universal across health systems. In a keynote, CommonSpirit VP of Perioperative Services Brian Dawson laid out how his health system achieved true “systemness” across its OR departments, and in doing so showed how all providers, regardless of their specific offerings or characteristics, can do so as well.
  • Updates from LeanTaaS. Experts had the opportunity to explain exactly how their AI and predictive analytic solutions are supporting better healthcare operations, on a day-to-day and a macro level. Topics included building operational resilience, using capacity management to support staff, and brand new features in LeanTaaS solutions.

Private roundtable sessions, focused on the management of ORs, infusion centers and inpatient beds, were also held for attendees to engage with each other and with leaders who had particular successes to share.

The insights discovered at Transform were valuable, yet critical and timely. While many attended the event live, we would like to be sure others are able to engage in the content and take steps to transform their operations as well.
