Survey: State Budget Deficits the Top Concern for Healthcare Leaders

The results of a recent survey of more than 200 healthcare leaders by Jarrard, Phillips, Cate and Hancock published in the firm’s Inside Baseball newsletter lists nine issues keeping healthcare leaders up at night, with massive state deficits as the leading concern.Nearly 23 percent of respondents listed state deficits — which impact Medicaid reimbursement rates — as their top concern.

Other concerns include:

•    How to get paid for caring for the formerly uninsured (13.2 percent),
•    The increasing strength of insurance companies (13.2 percent),
•    Performance based reimbursements (10.6 percent),
•    The lack of strong Presidential candidates (9.7 percent),
•    Physician and nurse shortages (5.3 percent).
•    Accountable care organizations (4.4 percent),
•    Shift to consumer-driven healthcare (4.0 percent), and
•    The still lethargic IPO market (2.2 percent).
