Mike Cafasso, CEO of St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, said the transition will take several months to complete, according to the report. While some of the 300 positions may be eliminated once the period begins, others will continue to work at the facility for the duration of the transition.
“There is some potential confusion out in the marketplace about when and what and how things are going to happen,” Mr. Cafasso said. “The plan does not begin to transition until May 7 — it’s not an end date but rather the beginning of the transition. … Some things will be here until the end of the year.”
As part of the restructuring, Mr. Cafasso said the hospital’s surgical unit will be expanded and additional staff will be hired. Officials also plan to grow the facility’s cancer care and orthopedics and joint replacement services. However, its telemetry and intensive care units will be pared down to 42 beds, according to the report.
