The two-story wing, to open in March 2012, will create a larger children’s diagnostic center with space for parents to sleep overnight, a larger pediatric oncology clinic and renovate the pediatric intensive care unit.
Officials at the 471-bed hospital said the children’s hospital reached maximum capacity in 2003. The expansion would increase pediatric inpatient capacity by 5 percent and pediatric outpatient capacity by 2 percent.
